Cherry Aid

EATING cherries may relieve pain better than taking an aspirin. People living in the state of Michigan eat a lot of cherries, their local crop, and some have claimed that eating the fruit improves their gout and arthritis pain.

Muraleedharan Nair at Michigan State University in East Lansing suspected that the reddish chemicals called anthocyanins, found in tart cherries, might be responsible for the effect.

The Nature Of Cancer

It is certainly a pleasure to be here at the Second Annual Convention of the Cancer Control Society-an outgrowth, as you know, of the International Association of Cancer Victims and Friends.

As I look back through the years marketing the emergence of these two fine Societies, I can recall the number of miraculous victories we have had in those intervening years; that it is as true today as it was eleven years ago that Laetrile, Vitamin B17, is the first and last final hope in the prophylacsis in therapy of cancer in man and animals. The reason for this is that Laetrile is a vitamin. It is the 17th of the B vitamins.

The optimal diet that is recommended by most professional health organizations is a low-fat, low-saturated fat, high-complex carbohydrate diet characterized by a frequent consumption of vegetables, fruit, whole-grain bread, rice and pasta. The WHO study group on diet, nutrition and prevention of communicable diseases recommended that we daily consume at least 400 grams (14 ozs) of fruits and vegetables, including at least 30 gm (1 oz) of pulses, nuts and seeds (2).
